The underground parking space will feature bike parking, changing rooms, parking for NRK and Aftenbladet’s official vehicles, and technical spaces for ventilation and an energy centre.

In addition, an independent energy centre will be created, incorporating geothermal wells beneath the structure.

The building will be Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM)-certified as Excellent, denoting sustainable performance.

Furthermore, it will adhere to FutureBuilt’s circularity requirements.

Veidekke Bygg Rogaland district manager Bendik Aarstad said: “It’s really satisfying to start the construction of Mediebyen. This is a project we have been working on for a long time, in close cooperation with SVG Property, Ghilardi+Hellsten and other partners, and we have been through a long zoning process.

“This is an attractive project that will be a key part of the cityscape going forward, and we’re looking forward to taking on the task.”

Demolition work at the site has commenced, with the project’s completion expected in June 2026.

This contract will be reflected in Veidekke’s order book for the second quarter of this year.

SVG property development manager Tore André Eide said: “We are very pleased that all permits and the contract with Veidekke have been concluded.

“It will be an exciting project to follow for the whole city, as we want to provide a building adapted to the site at the portal to this popular part of the city centre.”

Last month, Veidekke subsidiary Tore Løkke was selected as the main contractor for the rehabilitation of the Nyhellervatn dam in Aurland municipality.
